SPAIN - As much as the media likes to cover the goring of individuals at the annual Running of the Bulls in Pamplona, Spain, getting gored isn't all that common of an event. Your chances of getting gored are pretty slim. And the chances of you and your brother getting gored at exactly the same time? Even slimmer. But try telling that two these two American brothers, both of whom were gored by the same bull at the same time.
The bull that broke free from the pack caught brothers Michael (23) and Lawrence Lenahan (26), originally of Westlake, Ohio, in each of its horns on Thursday.
Lawrence was gored in the buttocks, while Michael was gored in the leg. Both were recovering well from surgery over the weekend in the same hospital.
The brothers decided to attend the Running of the Bulls to celebrate Michael Lenahan's defeat of testicular cancer, which had also spread to his abdomen.
Said their father, Larry Lenahan of Westlake: "He decided he wanted to live life to the fullest. He said once a year I'll do something exciting. And he did."
While older brother Lawrence has said he'd run with the bulls again, younger brother Michael Lenahan isn't taking his chances again.
"We will definitely be back again," said Lawrence, "My brother will never run [in the festival] again, but he would like to come back to celebrate."
Lawrence Lenahan currently serves as an Air Force captain and resides in Hermosa Beach, California. Michael Lenahan currently resides in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania.
