Bravo Steps Up Network

BravoLOS ANGLES, CALIFORNIA - The spirit of the Trio network lives on.
With an aggressive broadband push, Bravo is reincarnating the pop-culture-oriented channel with the recent launch of TrioTV.com and the future launch of OutzoneTV.com and BrilliantButCancelled.com, all inspired by programming created by the now-defunct network.
All three channels exist under the umbrella of the network's original site, BravoTV.com, and will be linked to the parent site.
Before its demise, the fledgling Trio network lost two-thirds of its 20 million household subscribers at the beginning of the year when satellite TV giant DirecTV dropped it from its national channel lineup.
"Trio on air lived in one way, but when you see a distinct possibility for niche content to grow, broadband can be a better place to be," Bravo president Lauren Zalaznick said. "The beauty of Trio the network was that people who watched it watched it in different parts. To some it was a music channel ... to some a great documentary channel. We think that parceling that out and this presence on the Web is a very good progression."
Last week, Bravo revealed the future launch of OutzoneTV.com, its first broadband channel targeted specifically to a gay and lesbian audience. The channel will feature video-on-demand content based around the network's series "Queer Eye for the Straight Guy," "Boy Meets Boy" and "Gay Weddings" as well as blogs and other online community activities.
That channel follows TrioTV.com. Launched last month, it features the docu-series "Parking Lot," short films and quirky content like the "Mr. Bill" claymation series, which first aired on "Saturday Night Live" during that show's early days.
The third slated channel, BrilliantButCancelled.com, is expected to launch in early April and is dedicated to programming that didn't survive on air long enough to find its audience. It will include the Trio original documentary of the same name and "EZ Streets," a dark crime drama written and directed by "Crash" director/co-screenwriter Paul Haggis.
