Madrid City Councilman Weds Male Partner

Pedro ZeroloMadrid.– Socialist leader and city councilor Pedro Zerolo married his partner, Jesus Santos, on Saturday in a ceremony symbolizing the progress that has been made in the homosexual struggle to achieve equal rights.
Spain became the fourth country to conduct gay marriages, after the Netherlands, Belgium and Canada.
Zerolo was born in Venezuela in 1960 and moved to Spain in 1985, where he began his fight for gay rights and against discrimination.
A Madrid city councilman and members of the federal executive committee of the ruling Socialist Party, Zerolo said his marriage was "a wedding, but also a point of reference. That is why have opened such an intimate act to the communications media."
"We always imagined this day," he said, "as a family affair, a time to be with people who love us, but this wedding is more than a wedding. It is part of a process toward equality," he said.
