Sexual Harassment On Big Brother Australia
When a TV show contestant waved his penis in the face of another contestant it was clearly sexual harassment, the nation's chief sexual discrimination officer has said.
But Pru Goward said the two men involved in the alleged assault did the right thing by quickly apologising to the woman.
The alleged assault, where one man waved his penis in contestant Camilla's face while another held her down, happened on the set of reality TV show Big Brother.
"She (Camilla) was embarrassed by it and I guess that is the test for sexual harassment," Mrs Goward told the Nine Network.
"I do think it sends an uncomfortable message out there in the community."
Mrs Goward refused to call for Big Brother to be banned but said the program had shown people how to commit a crime.
"Some might even say that's incitement to a crime, the crime of sexual harassment, it did show you exactly how to do it," Mrs Goward said.
"I think Big Brother should think about the fact that if it puts to air behaviour that is unlawful or arguably unlawful then it is playing with fire."
Mrs Goward, who is fighting to gain pre-selection for the New South Wales seat of Epping, praised the community's reaction to the incident.
"The community, I'm very impressed, has overwhelmingly responded in the right way which is 'we don't want it'."
