A man who became upset with the portrayal of male nudity on television retaliated by sending indecent pictures of women to the BBC, Norwich magistrates were told.
James Riley had been particu-larly upset by a BBC3 programme entitled My Penis and I.
But after his complaints about the programme got nowhere, Riley retaliated by sending pictures of intimate parts of naked women to the corporation.
"Officials at the BBC were alarmed and concerned when they received his letters, each containing a cutting from a pornographic magazine," said prosecutor Lindsay Pennell.
All four letters, which were posted in Norwich in July and August last year, were traced back to Riley.
Police made forensic tests on the letters, and DNA profiling revealed that 57-year-old Riley had sent them.
On Monday, Riley, of Green Drive, Lowestoft, was fined £200 and ordered to pay £45 costs after admitting four offences of posting a packet containing an indecent picture.
Passing sentence, chairwoman Elizabeth Powell told him: "We feel it was intentional and that there was embarrassment caused to the people who actually received the mail.
"We would add it is possible to switch the television off. You do have a choice as to whether or not to watch the television."
Miss Pennell told the court that when Riley was interviewed by the police he said he had been reacting to broadcasting he was unhappy with.
He had been particularly upset by the programme My Penis and I, and wanted to get back at the corporation over what it had done to "us males".
Riley told the court he had taken action because of his "high morals" and he had been "absolutely appalled" by the programme.
But he admitted he had become "obsessed over this" and had since arranged to see a psychiatrist.
His solicitor, Martin Clarke, said Riley lived alone, was unem-ployed and "has been watching television a lot". He had become increasingly concerned about the standard of British television.
