'Love Won Out' In Atlanta

Love Won OutATLANTA, GEORGIA - A new billboard is promoting a weekend conference designed to help turn gay people straight, and it is drawing a lot of attention on the downtown connector.
The conference is called, “Love Won Out” and the one-day event, sponsored by Focus on the Family, is held a few times a year in various cities around the country.
Attendees will hear from ministers, psychologists and counselors who say they have left homosexuality behind.
According to the Focus on the Family’s website, the group said the conference is an excellent opportunity to gain understanding about homosexuality and how a person can have these undesired attractions and desires, and how you can respond in a loving, compassionate and helpful way.
Pastor Roy Blankenship said he himself struggled with homosexual feelings until “love won out.”
“My compassion is for people and I simply want to say I believe that God didn’t make us that way,” said Blankenship.
But others believe that acceptance is the way to deal with homosexuality.
“It’s gonna entice some people, who think, in order to love my child, I have to change him. And we need to accept God’s gifts. Some people are blessed with same-sex affection orientation by God and they are created that way,” said Dale Murkle, a parent of gay children.
The conference is taking place at Blankenship’s church, the First Baptist Church of Woodstock.
