Copenhagen gets 2009 Gay Olympics

COPENHAGEN, Denmark (UPI)
The 2009 gay Olympics will be held in Copenhagen and city officials see it as a testament to tolerance and a warm up to an Olympic Games bid in 2024.
The Gay and Lesbian International Sport Association announced the decision that will bring 16,000 homosexual
athletes from 100 countries as part of the World OutGames, the Copenhagen Post reports.
Martin Geertsen, a city councilman and head of cultural and recreation in Denmark`s capital said the World OutGames will give the city a chance to test run a possible Olympic Games bid.
The World OutGames is a scaled-down version of the Olympic Games but for gay athletes.
The World OutGames will be held in Montreal next year.
