NEW ORLEANS - An 80-year-old Westwego man was arrested Friday on a charge of allegedly sexually assaulting a disabled man who had rejected the suspect's proposition.
Walter Leforte, of 939 Avenue D, who was booked with sexual battery and crimes against nature, is being held at the Jefferson Parish Correctional Center in lieu of $30,000 bail. Westwego police said Leforte performed oral sex on the 29-year-old man at Leforte's home.
The incident occurred Wednesday shortly before 8 p.m. The man, who has cerebral palsy and a mental disability, told police that he was walking down Avenue D to a fast-food restaurant on the West Bank Expressway when Leforte asked him to come to his house, said Westwego Assistant Police Chief Ronald Still. Once inside, the man said he asked to use the bathroom. Leforte watched, Still said.
When the man left the bathroom, he told police, Leforte offered him $15 if he would allow Leforte to perform oral sex on him. When the man refused, Leforte grabbed him by the crotch and forced him onto a couch in the living room, Still said. Leforte then assaulted him before throwing money at him and asking him to leave, Still said.
During the sex act, Leforte apparently bit the man, causing severe lacerations, Still said.
The man's mother noticed the injury Friday and initially thought he might have hurt himself in the zipper of his pants. However, when she pressed him, he told her about the assault, Still said.
Police arrested Leforte, who admitted to having oral sex with the man, but said it was consensual, Still said. He added that Leforte had not been arrested for any similar incidents in the past.
