UNITED KINGDOM - A florist yesterday became the first gay person to be convicted of deliberately infecting another with HIV.
The 47-year-old, who cannot be named knew he had the virus for seven months without telling his lover, 37.
When confronted he did not own up. The victim only learned the truth through a mutual friend.
The defendant - who got the virus that leads to Aids during the couple's two-year relationship - faces jail after admitting grievous bodily harm.
He changed his plea at at Isleworth crown court, West London, at the last minute due to overwhelming scientific proof.
Det Con Elliot Toms said: "He is a callous, individual who has behaved in an unfaithful way. He gave us no indication as to his intent or motivation."
Three men and a woman have been convicted of deliberately infecting people in the past three years.
