This is the first of a series of Bois that I will be posting over the next few days on the people The Human Rights Campaign picked as the Top 10 Advocates For The Gay And Transgender Rights.

Rocky Anderson : (Mayor of Salt Lake City , UT )
Born in Logan , Utah and educated at the University of Utah , Rocky Anderson is now the mayor of Salt Lake City , the capital of Utah . Mayor Anderson has held this title for the past five years, and in that time he has made great strides advancing the rights of Salt Lake City 's GLBT community. His efforts have included instituting non-discrimination policies for the city which protect GLBT individuals, and he has created a non-partisan organization called "“Alliance for Unity"” in which community leaders work to bring together the people of Utah . Most recently, Mayor Anderson signed an executive order on September 21 st of this year to provide Domestic Partner Benefits for any Salt Lake City employees who need them. Though this measure faces considerable opposition from Utah 's courts and legislature -– and indeed, though much of Mayor Anderson's work for equal rights is opposed by much of Utah 's population -– Mayor Anderson continues to fight for GLBT Utahns. To his opposition, Mayor Anderson said, "“This doesn't undermine the institution of marriage one bit. Equality doesn't undermine the institution of marriage but strengthens it."”
